SMALL BUSINESSES SAY NO TO RAISES READ ABOUT OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE

 WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER.

Small businesses around the country will be informing their staff that there will be no raises for the second straight year. Now, I feel for the staffers being in Corporate America for fourteen years. It is tough to deliver bad news such as this one. Why? Small businesses cannot afford to lose their key employees. Small businesses still create the majority of jobs in America. Consumer confidence is down and people are saving their money. They are thankful for having a job.

What can small business owners do to overcome the bad news? How do they keep morale up? Here are my TOP 10 SUGGESTIONS FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS TO KEEP EMPLOYEES SPIRITS UP

  1. Shut down half day one Friday per month
  2. Verbal and written recognition for job well down
  3. Increase Thank Yous in the office
  4. Have a BBQ
  5. Take a company day trip to the beach
  6. Gift certificates to movies or dinner
  7. Buy breakfast for everyone once per month
  8. Bring in Financial Planner to better educate on money
  9. Discuss state of economy
  10. Provide coffee

Harry, last Dec the company where my daughter works gave everyone a 20% pay cut.  A raise you say?  just to get the 20% back would be a raise.  This month my soninlaw took a paycut.  I wonder what Congress would do if they had a 20% pay cut and all the while were told, hey, you still have a job, unlike the 20% of your co workers who were laid off.

20% is hard to get back since the annual raise is between 2-5% per year. I believe people will start switching jobs which only hurts small business owner.
