I was reading an article on Japanese Airlines requesting a 40% pension payout for survival members. It states that Japanese Airlines is on the brink of bankruptcy. Many people are outraged after serving the company for many years in exchange for pension. JAL in return states that if cuts are not made, then they will be forced to file bankruptcy. It is the old scare tactics used by big corporations. That money should be tucked away for people's retirement life. However, we must live in reality. Many retirees are facing this sad news from other corporations around the world.
People around the world have seen their portfolios decrease in value from 25-50% in their retirement life. Many people 55 and over are scared. I believe the "Rules of Engagement" have changed in America. Americans no longer trust Wall Street after the last couple of years of nearly bankrupting the World. Again, Wall Street will be giving away billions of dollars in bonuses at the brokerages. Banks received the stimulus money only to keep it to purchase more assets and trade on the open market to make more money. That money was set aside to stimulate the economy. Now, our country faces unemployment rates over 10% as Americans continue to lose jobs, businesses cannot obtain credit needed to expand, and the Federal Government continues to expand against popular demand.
I truly believe that more Americans will be looking at real estate when it comes to investing. Americans wants tangible assets such as gold. Real estate is very attractive since prices are low, mortgage rates are low, and cash flow is positive at this time. It is a perfect storm for real estate investors. There are plenty of good renters that have entered the market after being foreclosed on their home. They will need a few years to get on their feet. I would advise to hire a property management company to manage your real estat portfolio.
