It was announced that the famous Businessweek magazine is being put up for sale due to a 30% decline in ad revenues. The economic crisis is forcing companies to decrease the money spent on print advertising. Locally, the Arizona Republic newspaper announced they were laying off 100 employees due to decrease in ad revenue. Obviously, the print advertising make the majority of their profit through advertising dollars spent by major companies to reach the American public.
The recession and the continuous competition of the Internet forces the sale of Businessweek. What will be the future of magazines? Online magazines with a subscription fee? Who will buy a magazine that continues to go down in value? The magazine has well over 100+ editorial staff and is delivered in 140 countries worldwide. Automakers and car dealerships continue to decrease advertising dollars since they are having problems at the same time. The Domino Theory is working when one industry hurts, then it passes down to the next industry. Who will be next?
Economists predict that we will come out of this recession in early 2010. However, we must decrease unemployment because we will need American jobs to spend us out of this recession according to the experts. President Obama continues to release more of the stimulus monies to kick in the economy. Republicans are saying that the Stimulus Plan has failed America. Americans are hoping to make it throught this time to keep their families safe.
